Best NBA pick'em apps to play with friends (2026-27)

BeTeam makes one of the apps on this list, so here is the short answer up front: the best NBA pick'em app depends on the format you want. ESPN is best for a playoff bracket, RunYourPool for a classic weekly office pool, and BeTeam for a private group that wants to follow the whole regular season.

How we compared

Methodology: five questions for every app

We looked at each product's own public pages in October 2026 and asked the same five questions: Is it free? Can you play in a private group with friends? Does it cover the regular season, or only the playoffs? What is the format — bracket, weekly pick'em, score prediction or fantasy? Is real money involved?

Where a product's own pages did not answer a question, we wrote “not confirmed” instead of guessing. The list is grouped by what each option is best for, so there is no #1. BeTeam publishes this page, and BeTeam is one of the eight options.

The options

The best NBA pick'em apps, by what they are best for

Best for a playoff bracket: ESPN NBA Playoff Challenge

ESPN Fantasy runs the NBA Playoff Challenge, a free bracket game where you pick the playoff winners and can compete in groups with friends. It covers the playoffs only. During the season, ESPN also has a daily Streak game. If your group only wakes up in April, this is the classic choice.

Best for a solo daily challenge: the NBA's own picks game

The league runs its own game at picks.nba.com. It is a solo daily game of stat questions, open to players 21+ in the US, with a bracket challenge in the playoffs. It has no groups for playing against friends, so it suits someone who wants a daily challenge on their own.

Best for a classic weekly office pool: RunYourPool

RunYourPool runs a weekly NBA pick'em. By default it uses 5 games a week, picked straight-up or against the spread. Its site says a pool is free for the season once 5 or more members join. It also runs NBA survivor pools and a playoff bracket. It is web-based.

Best for a custom pool on the web: OfficePoolStop

OfficePoolStop lets an organizer build a custom pick'em pool, and it also offers an NBA playoff bracket. Its pricing for NBA pools is not confirmed.

Best for a private friend group all season: BeTeam

BeTeam is a free iOS and Android app for private prediction leagues. Everyone predicts the final score of NBA games, and points come from the winner and the margin: 10 for the exact score, 3 for the right winner with the margin in the same band (1–5, 6–10, 11–15, 16–20 or 21+ points), and 1 for the right winner. Predictions lock at tip-off, each league has its own group chat, and there is no money involved. The app has ads. It is built for groups that want to follow the regular season, not just the playoffs. For coworkers, see the NBA office pool guide.

Best for NBA fantasy with friends: Sleeper

Sleeper runs NBA fantasy leagues for friend groups. It has free pick'em pools for friends in the NFL; whether it offers NBA pick'em is not confirmed. Choose it if your group wants to draft players rather than pick games.

Best for a free fantasy league from a big portal: Yahoo

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball offers free NBA fantasy leagues. We found no NBA pick'em game on Yahoo.

Best for big groups, European-style: Kicktipp

Kicktipp is a long-running European prediction-game site. It supports the NBA and is free for groups of up to 300 players.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best NBA pick'em app to play with friends?

It depends on the format. ESPN's NBA Playoff Challenge is best for a playoff bracket, RunYourPool for a classic weekly office pick'em, and BeTeam for a private group that wants to predict scores across the whole regular season. Sleeper and Yahoo run fantasy leagues rather than pick'em.

Is there a free NBA pick'em for the regular season, not just the playoffs?

Yes. RunYourPool runs a weekly NBA pick'em with 5 games a week by default, and its site says a pool is free for the season once 5 or more members join. BeTeam is free and covers the regular season and the playoffs. ESPN's NBA Playoff Challenge covers the playoffs only.

Does the NBA have its own picks game?

Yes, at picks.nba.com. It is a solo daily game of stat questions, open to players 21+ in the US, with a bracket challenge in the playoffs. It has no groups for playing against friends.

Can I play NBA pick'em with friends on Sleeper or Yahoo?

Both run NBA fantasy leagues. Sleeper has free pick'em pools for friends in the NFL, but NBA pick'em on Sleeper is not confirmed. We found no NBA pick'em game on Yahoo.

How were these apps chosen and ordered?

We compared each app on five questions: is it free, can you play in a private group, does it cover the regular season or only the playoffs, what is the format, and is real money involved. The list is grouped by what each app is best for, not ranked. BeTeam publishes this page and is one of the apps listed.

When does the 2026-27 NBA season start?

Opening night is Tuesday, October 20, 2026. NBA Cup group nights are Fridays from October 30, with the Cup final on December 11. The regular season ends April 11, 2027, and the playoffs start April 17, 2027.
